The Technology

Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 laser treatment targets aging and sun-damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that can penetrate deep into your skin to expedite your body’s remodeling of collagen. And since the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, it can leave the surrounding tissue intact, which can promotoe very rapid healing. Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 treatment resurfaces your skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out.*

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is different between the new Fraxel Dual and the previous Fraxel?
Fraxel Dual is a combination of the previous 1550nm technology and the new 1927nm laser, which is the only laser with this wavelength.

The updated 1550nm wavelength allows for:
1) Quicker Treatment Times – With the updated technology, treatment times have been cut by about 25% and have no degredation in effectiveness. In addition, only 3 treatments are recommended (versus previous 4)
2) Higher Comfort Level – The new handpiece has an integrated Zimmer Cooling Device (cold air) which allows for the skin to be chilled directly where the treatment is occuring.

The 1927nm wavelength allows for:
1) Cutting-edge Pigment Eradication – The 1927 allows for a very superficial resurfacing which can significantly reduce/remove pigmentation from melasma, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, actinic keratosis safely in all skin types, on all parts of the body.* It is thought that it will be more effective in treating melasma as it produces minimal heat compared to other laser systems.
2) High Comfort Level – Little to no topical anesthesia is needed using the 1927nm laser. This allows for large surface areas to be treated in a single session.
3) When used in combination with the 1550nm laser, you get more effective resurfacing – a superficial and deep resurfacing – leading to less treatments for the same results.
4) Safe for all skin types and all parts of the body

What can I expect after the procedure?
Most patients have pinkness and mild swelling for about 3 days.* There is typically no wound care, and no dressing changes. Your skin will often feel dry and we will recommend an advanced moisturizer to accommodate.* After a few days your skin will usually turn a bronze-like and begin to peel ~ the peeling usually lasts about 3 days.* Following, your skin will typically look very refreshed and will return to its natural color in about 5-10 days*. By the 8-10 days, most patients look like they have make-up or powder on because of the uniform color of their renewed skin.*
