The Perfect Peel is easy to fit into any convenient moment of your day. Unlike many other chemical peels, which require patients to follow a list of instructions in the days and weeks leading up to an appointment, The Perfect Peel requires little to no preparation or preconditioning of the skin. Application of the peel only takes 15 minutes. You may feel a slight tingling or stinging sensation while the formula is on your skin, but it will soon subside. The initial application numbs the skin for the remainder of the treatment. A fan can be used to blow cool air on your skin during the application process to maximize your comfort. Once your peel is finished, you can resume most normal activities right away.
Immediately after your peel, your skin will be red and sensitive as though you have a mild sunburn. Do not put makeup or other products on the treated area and limit sun exposure. If possible, avoid the sun altogether. We also recommend avoiding strenuous exercise and excessive sweating during the peeling process. You can resume wearing makeup on day two but should continue to avoid harsh ingredients and products — such as AHAs, BHAs, tretinoin, hot water and scrubbing brushes — that could irritate your skin.
Peeling typically begins on day three and finishes by day six or seven. Do not pick at or remove peeling skin. Though it is tempting to try to “speed up the process,” the dead skin should be allowed to slough off naturally to avoid adverse side effects. Be vigilant with daily use of broad-spectrum sunscreen in the first week after your peel to minimize the risk of hyperpigmentation. Ideally, you will make daily sunscreen use a lifetime habit to keep your skin youthful, healthy and beautiful.
